Laura Larson

Laura grew up in Chicago surrounded by the influence of the Chicago Imagists. Her work reflects the dual interests of story-telling and theatrical production – the building blocks for her consistent interest in Sculptural Installations and Narrative Tableau. In the late 1970’s Larson moved to Los Angeles where she became involved in the feminist art movement including participation in Judy Chicago’s The Dinner Party, a controversial, ground–breaking feminist art piece, The Women’s Caucus for Art, and Rachel Rosenthal’s “DBD” workshop.
Over the last 20 years Larson’s work has touched on 2 main topics: our relationship to nature and our animal co-inhabitants; and investigations into the cultural, historical, spiritual through-lines of the female trinity: mind, body and spirit. Each aspect of this trinity is explored through a distinct body of work: the “Looking Glass Lounge” (mind) solo show at HAUS gallery, Los Angeles Art Association/Gallery 825 and the Riverside Art Museum, “Epidermis Emporium” (body), solo show at the Kristi Engle Gallery in downtown Los Angeles, “Grace and Glory” (spirit) site specific installation at the Lancaster Museum of Art and History in 2016. Laura Larson has exhibited her work extensively throughout California, nationally and also internationally. She has been commissioned for multiple public art installations throughout the County of Los Angeles. In 2004 she received the Artist Resource for Completion Grant from the Durfee Foundation. Larson graduated from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, receiving a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in fine art and theatre arts. |
Dean Larson
|
Dean is a photographer living and working in the Southern California area. He is a SoCal native, born in Pasadena, currently living in Hollywood. Larson's father was a hobbyist photographer with a darkroom in the garage. He always wanted to share his passion for photography with Dean, but as a child, he just wasn’t interested. It wasn’t until he reached college that Dean realized that Photography was the creative outlet he had been searching for. This realization led him to a 36-plus year career as a photography teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District. It was a very fulfilling career with his students winning hundreds of awards and prizes in art competitions at the local, state, and national level. At the same time, he also pursued his own course as a free-lance and fine art photographer.
Over the past 25 years, Dean Larson has been in over 50 gallery shows, both solo and invitational exhibitions, as well as other group shows. His most recent solo shows were “IdealEstate” at Los Angeles Art Association/Gallery 825, “The Manipulated Image” at Cal Poly Pomona, Downtown Center, and “HydroGraphics” at DNJ Gallery at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica. Another extensive project is a visual diary of a road trip from Chicago to Los Angeles on Route 66. His current project is a series called “French Impressions”, images inspired by the age and architecture of France. |
